Follow Anna through her daily life and learn new German words and sentences in a simple, fun way.

In this first episode, Anna plans her week. She sits in a café, orders coffee and apple pie, meets friends, and writes to her family. What does Anna do each day? What words can you already understand?

How to learn best with this story:

Then read the English text. Understand the meaning. Try to guess how it might sound in German.
Now read the German text. Read slowly. Say the sentences out loud.

„Can I please have a coffee and a piece of apple pie?“, she asks the waitress.

„Of course, coming right away!“, the waitress replies kindly. She orders a coffee and a piece of apple pie.

„Kann ich bitte einen Kaffee und ein Stück Apfelkuchen haben?“, fragt sie die Kellnerin.

„Natürlich, kommt sofort!“, antwortet die Kellnerin freundlich.

Anna öffnet ihren Kalender und denkt über ihre Termine nach.

She has a doctor’s appointment tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Sie hat morgen einen Arzttermin, um 10 Uhr.

She has to go to the pharmacy to pick up her medicine.

Danach muss sie zur Apotheke gehen, um Medikamente abzuholen.

On Wednesday, she meets her friend Max in the park to cycle together

Am Mittwoch trifft sie ihren Freund Max im Park, um gemeinsam Fahrrad zu fahren.

Hopefully, it won’t rain!, thinks Anna.

„Hoffentlich regnet es nicht!“, denkt Anna.

On Thursday, Anna attends a German course.

Am Donnerstag besucht Anna einen Deutschkurs

Her teacher shows the class a picture.

Ihre Lehrerin zeigt der Klasse ein Bild

The picture shows a family having a picnic by the lake.

Auf dem Bild sieht man eine Familie beim Picknick am See

The teacher asks, “What do you see in this picture?”

Was seht ihr auf diesem Bild?“, fragt die Lehrerin.

Anna replies, “I see a family that looks happy. They are sitting on a blanket and eating together.”

Anna plans a party on Friday.

Am Freitag plant Anna eine Party.

She write a shopping list: drinks, chips, vegetables, and cheese.

Sie schreibt eine Einkaufsliste: Getränke, Chips, Gemüse und Käse.

She calls her friend Lisa and invites her to the party.

Sie ruft ihre Freundin Lisa an und lädt sie zur Party ein.

“Hello Lisa, would you like to come to my party on Friday?”, Anna asks.

„Hallo Lisa, möchtest du am Freitag zu meiner Party kommen?“, fragt Anna.

„I’d love to come! What can I bring?“, Lisa replies

„Ich komme gerne! Was kann ich mitbringen?“, antwortet Lisa.

Maybe a salad or something sweet?”, Anna suggests.

„Vielleicht einen Salat oder etwas Süßes?“, schlägt Anna vor.

Anna wants to relax at the weekend

Am Wochenende möchte Anna entspannen

She plans to visit the museum and maybe the cinema.

“Housework isn’t fun, but it’s important!”, Anna says to herself.

„Hausarbeit macht keinen Spaß, aber sie ist wichtig!“, sagt Anna zu sich selbst.

In the evening, Anna writes an email to her parents, who live in another city

Am Abend schreibt Anna eine E-Mail an ihre Eltern, die in einer anderen Stadt wohnen.

She tells them about her week and asks how they are

Sie erzählt ihnen von ihrer Woche und fragt, wie es ihnen geht.
