I’m Hassan. I write things down so I stop relearning them.
I am a software engineer living in Munich. This notebook started in 2021 as a private file of things I had worked out once and did not want to work out again — a debugging approach, a German grammar rule, a paragraph from a book worth keeping. It turned out other people were looking for the same notes.
Most of what is here falls into three piles: software, the German language, and the parts of life in a new country that fit into neither. I try to write the version I wish I had found: specific, honest about what did not work, and short on advice I have not personally tested.
I also publish a few small books and tools, mostly for people learning German. They are on Gumroad, and they exist because enough people asked for the notes in one place.
What you’ll find here
- SoftwareDebugging, process, and the unglamorous craft of shipping — written from the middle of the work, not the top of it.
- GermanA long, honest record of getting from nothing to B1: what worked, what wasted a year, and the vocabulary I kept forgetting.
- Munich & lifeAnmeldung, residence permits, and the small administrative shocks nobody warns you about — plus the books that stuck.
