How to Use ChatGPT Slides to Build Client Decks

ChatGPT Slides turns your notes and files into an editable deck you can export to PowerPoint. Useful for freelance consultants and sales account managers on paid plans.

Most of us do not hate presentations. We hate the two hours of moving boxes around before the real work starts. OpenAI just shipped ChatGPT Slides, and it goes straight at those two hours. In this post I show how to use ChatGPT Slides for client decks, who it helps, and where it falls short.

What ChatGPT Slides does

OpenAI added Slides in its ChatGPT release notes on October 16. You give ChatGPT a conversation, some files or a rough outline, and it builds a real deck. Not a picture of a deck. You can click and edit the text, images, shapes and charts yourself, or ask ChatGPT to change one slide without rebuilding everything.

A few things I like:

  • You can upload an old presentation as a style example, so the new deck follows your look.
  • Teammates can edit the same deck at the same time and leave comments.
  • You can present from ChatGPT, or export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides on the web.

The decks live in ChatGPT Space, the new place where OpenAI keeps your pages and files for a project.

Who ChatGPT Slides helps most

Freelance consultants. You already have the client call notes, the scope and a price. What you do not have is time to turn that into ten clean slides before Monday. Slides takes the material you already wrote and gives you a first version you can fix.

Sales account managers. You send almost the same proposal to many customers, with small changes. Upload your best old deck as the style example, add the new customer details, and you get a version that looks like your company, not like a template.

How people use it so far

It is very new, so I could not find many real user stories yet. Early coverage from Digital Trends focuses on the same uses OpenAI shows on its Slides page: quarterly reviews, client proposals, launch plans and short team updates. I will not pretend there are more stories than there are.

How to use ChatGPT Slides for a client proposal

  1. Open ChatGPT in Work and ask it to create a presentation in Space, or use the "Create slides" button.
  2. Upload your call notes and, if you have one, an old deck you like.
  3. Paste a prompt like this:
Create a 7 slide client proposal from the attached notes. Slides: the client's problem, goals, my approach, timeline, pricing, risks, next steps. Use the style of the attached deck. Keep each slide under 40 words and add speaker notes.
  1. Fix the facts yourself. Then ask for small changes, for example "turn the timeline into a chart" or "make slide 3 shorter for a busy manager".
  2. Export to PowerPoint or PDF and send it.

The honest limits

It is not for everyone. Slides is rolling out to eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise users with Space access. Free and Plus users do not get it for now. The release notes list no region limits, but the rollout is gradual, so it may not show up for you yet in Germany. And please check every number and claim before a client sees it. ChatGPT is fast, but your name is on the deck.
