How to Publish Gemini Canvas Apps to Google Sites

You can now publish Gemini Canvas apps to Google Sites in one click, free with a personal account. Useful for private tutors and club volunteers who need a shareable link.

Gemini can build small apps for you: a quiz, a calculator, a training plan you can click through. The hard part was always the last step. How do you put it somewhere other people can open it? Now you can publish Gemini Canvas apps to Google Sites with one click, and it works with a normal personal Google account.

What is new

When you build an interactive app in the Gemini app, you now see Export > Google Sites. Gemini creates a new, private Google Sites draft with your app inside, and the app stays interactive. You add a title or some text, press Publish, and share the link. Google announced it on 19 October and says it is available now on web, Android and iOS for Workspace users and personal Google accounts that have access to the Gemini app.

Canvas itself has no extra fee. Paid Google AI plans only give you higher limits.

Who it helps

Private tutors. You can make a small practice app for one topic, for example German articles or fractions, and send parents one link. No app store, no hosting, no code.

Volunteers in a club or Verein. The person who "does the website" for a football club or a choir is often not a developer. Now a training plan, a membership fee calculator or a simple event schedule can live on a real page in a few minutes.

How people already use this

Before this export, people did it by hand. Teacher and blogger Alice Keeler described in May how she turned a lesson plan into an interactive physics simulation in Canvas, then copied the HTML code and pasted it into a Google Site with the embed tool. It worked, but it was many steps. Other people copied the code to paid hosting services. The new button removes that work.

How to publish Gemini Canvas apps to Google Sites

  1. Open gemini.google.com and start a new chat.
  2. Choose Canvas from the menu under the text box.
  3. Describe your app with as much detail as you can.
  4. Test it in the preview. Ask Gemini to fix anything that looks wrong.
  5. Click Export > Google Sites. Add a short intro text, then publish.

An example prompt you can copy:

Build a simple quiz app for A2 German learners about der, die, das. Show one noun at a time with three buttons. After each answer, show the correct article and a short example sentence. At the end, show the score and a "try again" button. Use big buttons that work well on a phone.

For a club, try: "Build a weekly training plan for an under 12 football team with three sessions. Each session should open when you tap it and show the drills and time for each drill."

Things to keep in mind

The app is only as good as your prompt, so expect to fix a few things. Do not put personal data like student names or member lists into a public site. On work or school accounts, your admin must allow you to create Google Sites. And Google says users under 18 cannot create apps from Canvas for now.
